Who invented basketball
James Naismith.
Basketball was invented by American James Naismith. Naismith invented the game of basketball in 1891 while working as a physical education teacher at the YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, United States, after being inspired by a game in which local children threw a ball into a peach basket. Initially, he nailed two peach baskets to the railing of the bleachers in the gymnasium, and used a soccer ball as a game tool to throw into the baskets to determine the winner according to the number of points scored. The sport soon became popular on campus and was officially named “basketball”.
The rules of basketball were gradually improved and the International Basketball Federation (IBF) was established in 1932, which formulated the unified rules of the international game. 1936, basketball was listed as an official game in the Berlin Olympic Games, marking the official entrance of basketball into the international competitive arena. Basketball not only enriches people's sports and cultural life, but also promotes global sports exchanges and development.
